Sustainability
We recognise the impact that food and drink retail businesses have on the environment. We aim to identify issues and improve our sustainability, reducing our reliance on single use plastic and our carbon footprint.
Carbon Neutral Status
The Medway League of Friends has been awarded Carbon Neutral status for three years running. We use the accreditation to monitor our CO2 production and investigate ways to lower our emissions.
The offset on our most recent award has helped to manage and replant forests in the UK.
We take environmental factors into consideration when selecting new products, suppliers and equipment.
We have also significantly reduced the amount of waste that goes to landfill as we are now able to recycle our ground coffee - to the tune of approximately 9 tons per year!
Single Use Plastic
Even before the recent changes in legislation, we had made several large steps towards reducing our reliance on single use plastic. Our takeaway coffee cups, despite appearances, are entirely compostable and there is no plastic in our takeaway plates or cutlery.
Our sandwich packaging is plastic free and we are attempting to shift to paper bags where we can.
