About Us
The Medway League of Friends is a Registered Charity (No. 1172065) working to support local NHS services.
We operate the shop and cafe within Medway Maritime Hospital, The First Rate, located in Blue Zone, Level 2. In addition there is a small shop in Montgomery Court, Wainscott, providing essential items to the residents of the home and the surrounding estate.
What we do
and how we do it
To most of our customers we're probably "just" the shop at the local hospital. Open 7 days a week throughout the year, providing food, drink and daily essentials to the people of Medway.
All of that visible work helps us to achieve our charitable objectives of improving the patient experience at Medway Maritime Hospital. Our profit and any donations received are used to purchase equipment requested by the wards, departments and senior managers of the NHS Trust.
Our work
In the current financial year we have already purchased an incredible £200,000 of equipment for wards and departments at Medway Maritime Hospital.
This equipment ranges from the simple, like footstools or reclining chairs, all the way up to the complex. Patient monitors, scanners, nerve stimulators and ECG machines for areas including the Delivery Suite and Main Theatres.
